BestStart Cranford Street is looking for a passionate and dedicated Teacher in Training to join our energetic, close-knit team. We are committed to providing high-quality education and care for the children and whānau in our community.

About Our Centre

BestStart Cranford Street is a beautiful, purpose-built preschool located right on Cranford Street. Our centre has a unique and evolving philosophy, and this is an exciting opportunity to be part of its continued growth.

We’re proud of the welcoming, respectful environment our team has created — a place where tamariki thrive and families feel truly at home. We’re looking for someone who shares our values, brings a strong work ethic, and is excited to contribute to our journey.

About the Role

If you’re passionate about working with young children and are currently enrolled in a Level 7 ECE Bachelor programme (Year 1 or 2), we’d love to hear from you.

This is a permanent position working 35–38 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Why Choose BestStart?

At BestStart, we’re proud to be progressive leaders in the ECE sector, and we recognise the meaningful difference our teachers make every day. We’ve also opted into FULL Pay Parity.

We offer great benefits, including:

  • Paid study support for Year 2 & 3 Teachers-in-Training*
  • Refer-a-qualified-teacher bonus — receive $2,000*
  • Access to Whare Ako, our online learning platform
  • Tailored professional learning and development opportunities
  • Ongoing career pathways with wrap-around support
  • Subsidised health insurance*
  • Free annual flu vaccinations
  • Confidential counselling through EAP
  • A wellbeing programme to support you
  • Sick leave from your first day

Role Requirements

We’re looking for someone who is motivated to make a real difference in the lives of tamariki and contribute positively to our teaching team.

You will bring:

  • Enrolment in a Level 7 ECE Bachelor programme
  • Understanding of child-led curriculum and extending children’s learning
  • Knowledge of Te Whāriki and current ECE regulations
  • A strong commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi in practice
  • A collaborative, respectful team approach
  • Effective and professional communication skills
  • Confidence contributing to planning, documentation, and assessment
  • Initiative, self-motivation, and a desire to grow your practice
  • Passion for creating inspiring learning environments (Reggio Emilia knowledge is a bonus, not a must)
  • Ability to build strong relationships with tamariki, whānau, and colleagues
  • A calm, positive presence that helps create a respectful learning atmosphere

If you’re ready to grow your teaching journey in a supportive, values-driven centre, we’d love to welcome you.
