BestStart Salisbury Street is seeking a passionate and dedicated Qualified and Certificated Teacher to join our energetic and supportive, tight-knit team.

Located in the heart of central Christchurch, our newly renovated centre offers a calm and welcoming environment for children aged 3 months to 6 years. We celebrate the rich diversity of our community and place strong value on the meaningful connections we build with families. Our centre includes nursery, toddler, and prep spaces, with well-established routines and transition processes that support children to feel secure, confident, and engaged in their learning.

About the Role

This is a fixed-term parental leave position, working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, from August 2026 to March 2027. The role is based in our toddler room, working with children aged 2 to 3.5 years.

Our toddler space is a warm and inviting environment where tamariki are encouraged to explore, create, and grow. With a wide range of engaging play areas, children are supported to develop independence, confidence, and curiosity. Our experienced team of Kaiako guide learning through responsive, child-led practices in a safe and nurturing setting.

Role Requirements

We are looking for someone who is committed to making a difference in the lives of young learners and working collaboratively within a team dedicated to excellence. You will have:

  • BEd/Diploma in Teaching Level 7 (ECE or Primary) and current Teacher Certification
  • A good understanding of child-led curriculum, planning, and extending children’s learning
  • Sound knowledge of Te Whāriki and current ECE Regulations
  • A strong commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi in practice
  • A passion for delivering high-quality teaching and learning
