At BestStart Wigram, we know nutritious food plays an important part in helping our tamariki learn, grow and thrive. We’re looking for a passionate and organised Centre Cook to join our supportive team and create fresh, delicious meals each day.
Located in the Wigram Skies subdivision near Hornby, our purpose-built childcare complex is home to two unique centres and seven classrooms. It’s a busy and vibrant environment where you’ll become a valued part of our wider centre whānau.
About the Role
As our Centre Cook, you’ll be responsible for preparing morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea, creating varied and culturally inclusive menus that support healthy eating habits.
You’ll manage the day-to-day running of the kitchen, including weekly food orders, working within budget and ensuring high standards of food safety and hygiene. You’ll also confidently cater for allergies and dietary requirements, making sure every child can safely enjoy the food you prepare.
This is a permanent, full-time position working 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
What We’re Looking For

- Has a passion for cooking and baking
- Understands nutrition, allergies and dietary requirements
- Has excellent food safety and hygiene practices
- Is organised, reliable and confident working independently
- Is comfortable creating menus, placing orders and managing a food budget
