BestStart West Melton is looking for a passionate and energetic Caregiver to join our fantastic team, working with our Top Cats before and after school programme for children aged 5–12 years. You’ll be joining a fun, dedicated, and caring team who are passionate about creating the best possible experiences for our tamariki.

Top Cats provides a safe, supportive, and fun space where children can relax, play, and grow outside of school hours. We focus on building positive relationships, encouraging creativity, and supporting children’s social development. Our team works closely with the preschool teachers, helping our 5-year-olds transition confidently to school and into Top Cats, so they feel excited and ready for their next learning journey.

About the Role

As a Caregiver in our Top Cats programme, you’ll play an important role in creating a welcoming, engaging environment where children feel safe, valued, and excited to be there. Working closely with our Centre Manager and teaching team, you will help provide high-quality care and meaningful experiences for our tamariki.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide excellent care for children before and after school 
  • Supervise and safely walk children to and and from school 
  • Create fun, engaging, and age-appropriate activities for children aged 5–12 
  • Support children with homework where needed 
  • Foster positive relationships with tamariki, whānau, and your team 
  • Ensure children’s wellbeing and safety at all times 
  • Contribute to centre operations and team culture

Position Details

This is a permanent position for 23.75 hours per week, working split shifts:

Term time (Monday–Friday):

  • 7:30am – 9:00am
  • 2:45pm – 6:00pm

During the school holidays, you will support the holiday programme and assist with wider centre operations.

About You

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has experience working with primary school-aged children (preferred) 
  • Is patient, reliable, and nurturing 
  • Can confidently manage groups of children 
  • Has a positive attitude and strong teamwork skills 
  • Shows initiative and can also follow guidance from others 

A teaching qualification is not required, a genuine love for working with children is what matters most.
